Who can apply?You must be a resident of New York City to apply to Brooklyn Laboratory Charter Schools.

Does Brooklyn Laboratory Charter Schools charge tuition?Brooklyn LAB is a tuition-free public charter school. Admission is FREE and is determined by a random lottery after the application deadline on April 1, 2023.

Do Brooklyn Laboratory Charter Schools co-locate with Department of Education district schools or other charter schools?No, Brooklyn Laboratory Charter Schools is not co-located with Department of Education schools or with other charter schools.

Are Brooklyn Laboratory Charter Schools students required to wear uniforms?Yes, all Brooklyn LAB students are required to wear school uniforms so that students can focus on learning, and dressing for success is an essential part of our culture. However, if a family can't afford a uniform, we have a support fund to assist.

How old must my child be to apply to the 6th gradeYou can apply to Brooklyn Laboratory Charter Schools in the calendar year your child turns 11. (In other words, your child must turn 11 years old by December 31 of the year they are admitted to 6th grade.)

My child is currently enrolled at Brooklyn Laboratory Charter Schools. Do I need to re-enroll for next year?All Brooklyn LAB families are automatically given a seat for the following school year. But to confirm placement, families must complete the Intent to Return form. School staff will reach out with instructions before the re-enrollment period begins.

How do I apply?You can submit a SchoolMint application at this link. Then, sign up and create an account to get started on your application. You may quickly check and review your application status by signing into your SchoolMint account.

Do I need to reapply if I submit a common online application through the NYC Charter Center?If you submitted a Brooklyn LAB application through the NYC Charter Center, your application would automatically transfer to our database. There's no need to submit more than one application.

What if my child may be immune to some diseases?You must apply to show immunity and have a diagnosis from your child’s doctor. Your child’s health care provider may need to take a blood test to confirm that your child has immunity. Please have your doctor complete and sign the Request for Review of Serology form (PDF) and submit it to the school for approval. Your child will be allowed to attend school during the approval process.
